A young girl storms out of a house on a summer’s evening in 1972 and what should have been a quick jaunt around the safe Staffordshire streets to cool off, turns into every family’s worst nightmare: a murder that remains without true justice, even five decades on.

Fourteen-year-old Tamworth schoolgirl Judith Roberts left her home aboard her treasured green Raleigh bicycle on the evening of 7 June 1972. Three days later her savaged body was found in a makeshift grave in a field less than a mile from her home. As a community grieves the tragic loss of a young life, a vulnerable, young squaddie by the name of Andrew James Evans walks into a police station where he claims he’s seen Judith’s face in his dreams; he fears it means he had something to do with her death. Interrogated by police for hours without a lawyer present, Evans confesses to murder and police believe they have removed Judith’s killer from the streets.

While Evans languishes in prison, a sadistic killer lurks in the shadows on the streets of West Yorkshire and Manchester. His horrific moniker depicts the grisly end he inflicts on his victims. When the culprit behind these slayings is finally caught and unmasked as Bingley lorry driver, Peter Sutcliffe, West Yorkshire Police are forced to ask, could there have been more victims? The answer is almost definitely. Sections of the Home Office report on his supposed other victims remain sealed away to this very day.

After serving twenty-five years behind bars, the criminal justice system overturns Evans’ conviction for lack of evidence. His is one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in British legal history and suddenly Judith’s is a case with more questions than answers; Who really murdered Judith? Did her body bear the signature marks and methods of the UK’s most prolific serial killer? Could an unidentified fingerprint on Judith’s bicycle hold the key to her killer? Will there ever be true justice for Judith and her family?
